The team at AIG kicks off the Virtual Idea Lab series on June 11th at 12:00 Pacific with a session that will feature Adam Winslow, CEO, Life Insurance, Life & Retirement for an interview touching on the big picture at AIG here in the U.S. as well as overseas. He’ll be joined for that discussion by Mark Peterson, EVP and Chief Distribution Officer, Life Insurance, AIG Financial Distributors, which will then be followed by a discussion of a carefully selected set of strategies and sales ideas perfectly suited to today’s challenging market. Session takeaways include:
- Providing clients with a way to understand the precise impact the recent market downturn has had on their retirement plans, all without an daunting and exhaustive financial plan

Adam Winslow, Chief Executive Officer, Life Insurance Life & Retirement, AIG
Adam Winslow is Chief Executive Officer of AIG’s Life Insurance business covering both the US and International markets. He is also a member of the Life & Retirement Executive Leadership Team. Before his current role, Mr. Winslow spent more than three years as Chief Executive Officer of AIG Life UK. Mr. Winslow joined AIG in 2013 and held management positions in the UK General Insurance and EMEA General Insurance businesses. Before joining AIG, he served as Director of Strategic Partnerships at Aviva. Prior to Aviva, Mr. Winslow worked in Cape Town, South Africa overseeing a large business process outsourcing contact center. He began his career in Paris with Allianz Asset Management. Mr. Winslow earned his bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in French from York University, and his master’s degree in European Business from the ESCP in Paris.
Mark Peterson, Executive Vice President and Chief Distribution Officer, Life Insurance, AIG Financial Distributors
Mark Peterson serves as Executive Vice President and Chief Distribution Officer, Life Insurance, for AIG Financial Distributors, the U.S. life and retirement distribution organization for American International Group, Inc. (AIG). In this role, he is responsible for leading retail life product sales in the United States through independent distribution, including AIG Life Brokerage, AIG Partners Group, AIG Senior Markets, and AIG Transactional Markets Group, and affiliated distribution, including AIG Insured Solutions Group, and AIG Direct. Mr. Peterson joined AIG in June of 2012 and most recently served as Senior Vice President, Independent Distribution, which includes AIG Life Brokerage and AIG Partners Group. Mr. Peterson has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining AIG, he served in various sales leadership roles at Aviva, Sun Life Financial, Phoenix Wealth Management and ManuLife Financial.
Joe Ross, ChFC, CLU, CRC, Vice President – Sales Productivity & Business Development, AIG Financial Distributors
Joe Ross has been in the insurance business since age 16, and went on to obtain his Insurance degree from the University of Iowa, being awarded the coveted Emmett J. Vaughan insurance scholarship. Joe’s career began as a member of his father’s top-producing Managing General Agency with E.F. Hutton Life in 1981. Their agency was consistently the top-producing MGA nationally, while Joe was also among the top 65 personal producers in the country for Hutton Life. In 1990 he became an Insurance & Estate Planning Specialist for Merrill Lynch in the Chicago area, followed by Vice President of Sales and Marketing for three life insurance companies before spending the last 20 years as the brains behind innovative sales concepts that have driven life insurance, annuity and retirement planning strategies in the independent agent and broker-dealer channels. In 2013 he brought those skills to AIG where he continues to inspire financial advisors to make a difference in their clients’ lives.
Vern Carlson, National Sales Manager, Life Brokerage Channel, Independent Life Distribution, AIG Financial Distributors
Vern Carlson serves as National Sales Manager, Life Brokerage Channel, Independent Life Distribution for AIG Financial Distributors, the U.S. Life and Retirement distribution organization for American International Group, Inc. (AIG). In this role, he is highly engaged with financial advisors and agents while managing a well-connected regional sales team that is responsible for all life insurance sales through independent life distributors and agents. Mr. Carlson joined AIG in January 2018 and previously served as Regional Vice President for the Mid-Atlantic region. Prior to joining AIG, Mr. Carlson was associated with MetLife and Brighthouse for 16 years serving in several sales leadership roles in the life insurance and annuity distribution organizations, including Internal Wholesaler, Sales Desk Manager, Regional Vice President for the Southern California region, Head of Advanced Markets and, most recently, Divisional Sales Manager.
